Biography

Henri René was an American musician, producer, and conductor who was born as Harold Manfred Kirchstein in 1906. He studied at the Royal Berlin Academy of Music and performed with various orchestras in the United States during the mid-1920s. René was appointed musical director for RCA Victor in 1936 and established his own orchestra in 1941. He was responsible for the original recording of “Beer Barrel Polka” and achieved commercial success with the tracks “Cuckoo Waltz” and “Waltzing on the Kalamazoo”. His recordings include the studio albums Music for Bachelors (1955), Music for the Weaker Sex (1955), and Compulsion to Swing (1958). René also composed the closing theme for the television program What's My Line?. For his work in the recording industry, he received a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. He died in 1993.
