Biography

Henk Wijngaard is a Dutch country singer and songwriter born on 13 June 1946 in Stadskanaal. He began playing the guitar at age 14 and was initially employed as a truck driver, which inspired the themes of his music. Wijngaard achieved professional recognition with the single “Met de vlam in de pijp” (1978), which reached number 6 on the Dutch Top 40. His discography includes more than 40 recordings, such as the studio albums Zingende wielen (1978) and Van de wereld (2009). His recording career includes the singles “’n Sneeuwwitte bruidsjurk” (1988) and “He Suzie” (1990), the latter reaching number 8. His song “Ik zie de wereld door de voorruit van mijn wagen” (1978) was named Best Non-English Song at the International Country Music Awards. He is the paternal half-brother of the father of singer Shania Twain.
