Hate Squad, formed in Hannover, Germany in 1993, began as a hybrid of hardcore and thrash metal under the guidance of frontman Burkhard Schmitt. The groupâs early breakthrough came with a demo recorded five months after formation, securing a contract with GUN Records and leading to the debut album Theater of Hate on 1994-07-01. Subsequent releases-I.Q. Zero (1995-06-15), the remix EP Sub Zero â The Remixes (1996-03-20), and Pzyco! (1997-05-10)-solidified their presence on the European metal scene, supported by tours with Kreator and Grip Inc. After a contractual lapse, the band returned with H8 for the Masses (2004-09-01) on Swell Creek Records, followed by Degüello Wartunes (2008-04-22) on Dockyard 1, featuring guest vocals from Marcus Bischoff and Timo Böhling. In 2011-10-28, Katharsis was released through Massacre Records, marking the bandâs last studio effort before the untimely death of bassist Bauke de Groot in 2021, a loss announced on social media after a prolonged illness.
