Leeway was an American crossover thrash band formed in Astoria, New York, in 1984 with guitarist A.J. Novello and vocalist Eddie Sutton under the name The Unruled. They gained notoriety performing at the CBGB club alongside groups such as Crumbsuckers and Bad Brains. Their first two albums, Born to Expire (1989) and Desperate Measures (1991), were released under Profile Records. Despite touring with notable bands like Exodus and Sepultura, Leeway did not achieve significant commercial success due to a lack of promotion from their label. Following their split from Profile, they released Adult Crash (1994) and Open Mouth Kiss (1995) on Bulletproof Records before disbanding in 1996. The band's song "Enforcer" was featured in the game Grand Theft Auto IV (2008). Eddie Sutton, the frontman of Leeway, passed away on April 19, 2024, after battling lung cancer at the age of 59.
