The group began as a side project by members of Few and the Proud, initially playing powerviolence songs influenced by Crossed Out and Infest. Their early releases included the EP Imprisoned (2007) and the single "Harms Way" (2008), followed by the debut album Reality Approaches (2009) and the EP No Gods No Masters (2010). Harm's Way released their second studio album, Isolation, in 2011. The band signed with Deathwish Inc. in 2013 and released the EP Blinded. Their third studio album, Rust, was released in 2015 through Deathwish. In 2018, Harm's Way debuted on Metal Blade Records with Posthuman and later released the remix EP PSTHMN (2019). The band continued to evolve their sound, incorporating elements of metalcore, industrial death metal, and groove metal. In 2023, they released their fifth album Common Suffering.
