Biography

Guy, an American R&B band, were founded in 1987 by new jack swing luminary Teddy Riley, alongside Aaron Hall and Timmy Gatling. The group originated from Harlem, New York City, where both Teddy Riley and Timmy Gatling grew up in musically active households. Before forming Guy, the pair were part of a band called Kids at Work. Guy's debut self-titled album, released in June 1988 via Uptown Records, marked their breakthrough moment. The album featured successful singles, including "Groove Me", "Teddy's Jam", "I Like", and "Spend the Night", which became hits on the Billboard R&B chart. The album itself reached number 27 on the Billboard 200 and was certified double platinum. In November 1990, Guy released their second album, The Future, which included hits like "Wanna Get Wit U", "Let's Chill", and "Do Me Right". The group disbanded in 1991, but regrouped intermittently from 2005 onwards for reunions and tours.
