Grupo Génesis was formed in 1972 in Muquiyauyo (JunÃn), Peru, and became a key name in the countryâs chicha-leaning cumbia scene through the long leadership of founder and director Josué Jurado Zurita, with well-remembered vocal eras linked to Andrés âAndyâ Vásquez and later âEl Felinoâ Randy. The groupâs early recorded footprint was captured on releases such as Primeras Grabaciones (1983) and Cholita (1989), then expanded in the early 1990s with titles like Génesis Siempre Génesis (1992) and the concert document Ãltimo Concierto (En Vivo) (1993), which helped cement its live reputation alongside its studio work. Over the following decades, Grupo Génesis kept its repertoire circulating across Peruâs cumbia-andina and chicha circuit, and its catalog later reached new audiences through streaming-era compilationsâmost notably El Grupo Completo (2016), which included one of the bandâs signature tracks, âYerbita Mala Hierba.â After Josué Jurado Zuritaâs death, the project continued as a family-run group, and leadership later passed to his son, Josué Jurado Jr, who took on the director role and fronted the continuity narrative behind the bandâs modern output. Under Josué Jurado Jrâs direction, Grupo Génesis released full-length projects including Como Duelen Las Espinas (2019) and En el Hospital (2019), then leaned into performance-focused releases with Concierto Virtual Génesis (2021). In 2024, the group framed its history and succession directly through El Heredero (2024) and the anniversary live set 50 Años Génesis (En Vivo) (2024), and it extended that live momentum with Estacion Barranco (En Vivo) (2025).
