Biography

Armonía 10, founded on 27 May 1972 by Juan de Dios Lozada Naquiche in San Martín, Piura, is a Peruvian cumbia group that evolved from the original Los Blander's name. The ensemble’s early years were marked by local performances and the addition of the Telly Pazos brothers, who helped steer the group toward a broader regional presence. The breakthrough came with the 1983 EP Enfermera and the subsequent LP El Chinchorro, which established the group’s signature blend of rhythmic percussion and melodic brass. Throughout the 1980s and 1990s, Armonía 10 released a series of successful albums—Se Quema, Se Quemó (1985), Tonto Amor (1986), and Gracias (1987)—and recorded hit singles such as "Enfermera" and "Pagarás". The group signed with INFOPESA, toured nationally and internationally, and collaborated with artists like Ernesto Pimentel. In 2006, the album Imparables broadened their appeal with urban influences. The death of founding member Walther Lozada in 2022 led to a legal split of the brand into two factions, yet the group continued to release compilations and new material. Armonía 10 received the Personalidad Meritoria de la Cultura award in 2022, acknowledging its significant role in the development of Peruvian cumbia.
