Grupo Néctar, formed in 1995 in Buenos Aires by Johnny Orosco, Ricardo âPapitaâ Hinostroza, Enrique Orosco, and Juan Carlos Marchand, emerged from the Peruvian cumbia tradition. Their first recording was Embriágame suavecito (1997), and they gained widespread recognition with Los Reyes de la Cumbia (1998), featuring the popular track âEl arbolitoâ, which was a major hit in Peru. Subsequent releases such as La magia de Néctar (1999), Grupo Néctar (2003) and other compilations expanded their discography and repertoire. The group toured extensively across Peru, Bolivia, and the United States, becoming beloved in Peruvian diaspora communities. The tragic bus accident on 13 May 2007 in Buenos Aires claimed the lives of the founding members, including Johnny Orosco and Ricardo Hinostroza, ending that original lineup. The group name and legacy continued through performances by Deyvis Orosco and related ensembles. Later releases such as Tú vives equivocada (2015) honored their legacy. Néctar Internacional (2021) and Johnny Internacional (2023) are later compilations celebrating their influence.
