Biography

Grinspoon, an Australian post-grunge band, were formed in 1995 in Lismore, New South Wales, and initially comprised Phil Jamieson and Pat Davern on guitar, Joe Hansen on bass, and Kristian Hopes on drums. The group gained prominence after winning Triple J's Unearthed competition, which aimed to promote rising talent across Australia. Their breakthrough came with the release of their debut EP Just Ace in 1998, followed by another EP, Pushing Buttons. Grinspoon's first full-length album, Guide to Better Living, was released in July 1997 and peaked at number 11 on the Australian charts, remaining there for 26 weeks. The album included notable tracks such as "Pressure Tested" and "Don't Go Away". Their second album, Easy, was released in 1999 and featured hits like "Violent and Lazy". In 2002, Grinspoon released their third album, New Detention, which topped the ARIA Charts. The band's fourth album, Thrills, Kills And Sunday Pills, earned them their first ARIA Award for Rock Album of the Year in 2005. Despite a subsequent hiatus, Grinspoon went on to release albums such as Six To Midnight in 2009 and Black Rabbits in 2012. In 2024, they released comeback album whatever, whatever.
