Madeleine Haenlein, born in London, United Kingdom, is an English singerâsongwriter and guitarist known professionally as Gretel Hänlyn, then simply Gretel. Growing up in West London, she began writing music in her teens and released her debut single "Slugeye" in Septemberâ¯2021, followed by the EP Slugeye in Mayâ¯2022. In Januaryâ¯2022 she issued the single "Motorbike" and later singles "Apple Juice" and "Drive" that year, building a growing fan base. Her second EP, Head of the Love Club, arrived in Marchâ¯2023 to critical attention, and the Recording Academy listed her among â6 FemaleâFronted Acts Reviving Rock.â She was also highlighted by Metro as a breakout artist for 2023. In Aprilâ¯2026 she released her debut studio album Squish, through Breadcrumb Recordsâ¯/â¯AWAL.
