Biography

Greg Cohen is an American jazz bassist. He has worked in traditional jazz and other styles with artists including Ken Peplowski, Kenny Davern, Marty Grosz, and Woody Allen, as well as with Tom Waits, David Byrne, Laurie Anderson, Elvis Costello, and John Zorn. Cohen was a member of John Zorn’s Masada quartet and has released albums as a leader, including Way Low (1996), Moment To Moment (1998), and Golden State (2014). He has also contributed to recordings across genres, such as Tom Waits’ Heartattack and Vine, David Byrne’s Feelings, and Laurie Anderson’s Bright Red. Cohen has also been a member of Woody Allen and his New Orleans Jazz Band and has appeared in the documentary Wild Man Blues. Additionally, he has held teaching positions at the Jazz Institute Berlin and SDMK – Danish National Academy of Music.
