Biography
Gong Qiu Xia was a Chinese singer and actress born Gong Shashan in 1918 in Chongming. She was a member of the Shanghai Plum Flower Troupe and toured Southeast Asia in 1933. Gong made her film debut in Father Mother Son Daughter (1936) and achieved fame as a "triple threat" for her acting, singing, and tap dancing. She earned the nickname âBig Sisterâ following her role in the film Four Daughters (1938). Recognized as one of the "Seven Great Singing Stars," Gong was a prominent figure in the shidaiqu and mandopop genres. She moved to Hong Kong in 1946 and later to Taiwan in 1967. Her final film was èè (1980). Gong died in 2004.
