Biography

Gloria Bosman, born circa 1972, was a South African jazz singer raised in Mofolo and Pimville Soweto in Johannesburg. She sang in her church choir before performing at the Market Theatre in 1993, gaining a scholarship to the Pretoria Technikon to study opera. Her debut album Tranquillity (1999) earned her the award for Best Newcomer at the South African Music Awards and nominations for Best Contemporary Jazz Album and Best Female Artist. In 2001, she released The Many Faces of Gloria Bosman, which featured collaborations with Paul Hanmer. Her subsequent releases included the album Stop & Think (2003). She received six South African Music Award nominations throughout her career. Following a short illness, she passed away on March 14, 2023.
