Gitta Lind, born Rita Gracher on April 17, 1925, in Trier, Germany, was a singer known for her contributions to pop and Schlager music. She initially studied ballet but decided to pursue singing at age 17, training under Maria Ivogün in Koloratursopran. Her first engagement as a singer came in February 1944 with Reichssender Luxemburg, where she adopted the stage name Gitta Lind. Post-World War II, Gitta Lind became a radio singer for NWDR in Hamburg and later moved to Stuttgart for productions with Erwin Lehn at SDR. In 1948, she signed her first record deal with Telefunken and released her debut hit "Blumen für die Dame". Gita Lind's career flourished in the 1950s with notable releases including "WeiÃer Holunder" (1956), which earned gold certification for selling 500,000 copies. She also released albums such as Ich Träum' Von Dir (1956), and Lied Der Einsamkeit (1960). Her collaborations included duets with Vico Torriani and Hans Clarin, and notable songs like "My Happiness" (1959) with Christa Williams. Gitta Lind participated in the German pre-selections for the Eurovision Song Contest multiple times. She also ventured into acting, appearing in films like Skandal im Mädchenpensionat and Schlagerparade. Her final television appearance was in the ZDF music show Der Wind hat mir ein Lied erzählt with Peter Frankenfeld in 1973. Gitta Lind passed away on November 9, 1974, from cancer and is buried in Trier.
