Biography

Girl Thing was a British-Dutch girl group formed in 1998, consisting of Jodi Albert, Michelle Barber, Anika Bostelaar, Linzi Martin, and Nikki Stuart. The group was created by Simon Cowell with the intention to rival the Spice Girls. Their 2000 debut single "Last One Standing", written and produced by the Steelworks production team, received significant promotion but charted at number 8 in the UK despite expectations of a higher placement. The song also made the Australian Top 20, achieving gold certification. Despite this initial success, their follow-up single "Girls on Top" reached only number 25, leading to the cancellation of their album release in Britain. However, the album Girlthing was released in Australia, New Zealand, India, and Japan. Girl Thing recorded several other songs including "Young, Free & Happy", "Extraordinary Love", and "Summer Daze" before disbanding in 2001. The group reformed in 2013 for the second series of ITV2's The Big Reunion, performing a one-off concert at the Hammersmith Apollo in March 2014.
