Biography

Born on 3 October 1955 in Nottingham, East Midlands, Gina Birch is a pioneering British musician, songwriter, and producer, best known as one of the founding members of the influential punk band the Raincoats. In the late 1970s, she emerged as a key figure in the post-punk music scene, recognised for her innovative bass-playing and distinctive, often experimental sound. As a member of the Raincoats, she helped shape the band's unique blend of avant-garde, post-punk, and folk influences, creating music that defied conventions and resonated with a diverse audience. Gina Birch branched out as a solo artist in 2021 with the single "Feminist Song" before dropping her debut album, I Play My Bass Loud in 2023 via Jack White's Third Man Records. In 2024, she released a cover of the Yoko Ono-penned song "Listen, the Snow Is Falling." Trouble, her highly anticipated second solo album, arrived in 2025.
