Biography

The Raincoats, a British post-punk band, were formed in 1977 by Ana da Silva and Gina Birch while they were students at Hornsey College of Art in London. Inspired by seeing the Slits perform live earlier that year, da Silva and Birch founded The Raincoats with Ross Crighton on guitar and Nick Turner on drums. Their first concert took place on November 9, 1977, at The Tabernacle. Signed to Rough Trade Records, they released their self-titled debut album The Raincoats in November 1979, followed by Odyshape in 1981 and Moving in 1984. After going their separate ways in 1984, the Raincoats reformed in 1993 and released Looking in the Shadows in 1996.
