Biography

Giannis Poulopoulos, known as John Poulopoulos, was born in 1941 in Kardamýli, Greece, and was a notable Greek singer. He began his musical journey at a young age and secured an audition with Columbia Records in 1963 after persistent efforts. His performance of "Mána mou kai Panagía" and "Párapono" impressed Míkis Theodorákis, who mentored him. Poulopoulos' first recordings included "Stróse to stróma sou gia dyo", "Dóxa tow Theó", and "To psomí einai sto trapézi". He released several singles and EPs before signing with Lyra Records. His breakthrough came in 1965 with the release of "Μη μου θυμώνεις μάτια μου". He collaborated with notable figures such as Yannis Spanos and Mimis Plessas. In 1969, his album Ο δρόμος achieved significant success. Poulopoulos continued to release albums through the 1970s and 1980s, including collaborations with George Krimizaki. He signed with Minos Records in 1975 and produced several albums until 1989. After a hiatus, he returned with the album Του τραγουδιού το βλέμμα in 1997. Poulopoulos passed away in 2020.
