Geraldine Hunt - born Geraldine Milligan in St. Louis, Missouri on February 10, 1945 â was an R&B singer best known for her 1980 disco hit "Can't Fake the Feeling". Growing up in Chicago in a family of musicians, she attended high school with her best friend Minnie Riperton and eventually signed with the Checker Records label. Her early releases included the singles âI Let Myself Goâ (1962) and âSneak Aroundâ (1963). She didnât achieve chart success until 1970 with the release of âYou & I,â her duet with Charlie Hodges, which reached Number 45 on Billboardâs R&B Singles chart. Her first solo singles to hit the charts were 1972âs âBaby, I Need Your Lovingâ (Number 47) and 1973âs âYou Brought Joyâ (Number 78). Geraldine Hunt moved to Montreal, Canada in 1975 and finally released her debut album, Sweet Honesty, in 1978. Two years later, Geraldine Hunt released her second album, No Way, which featured the singles âNo Way,â âI Feel Like a Woman Again,â and âCanât Fake the Feeling.â A Number 1 on Billboardâs Dance Club Songs chart, âCanât Fake the Feelingâ also rose to Number 58 on the R&B Singles chart and became a hit in the UK and France. Her next single âHeart Heartâ (a duet with Charles Marotta) reached Number 17 on the Dance Club chart, but the momentum on her career stalled and Geraldine Hunt faded from the spotlight. She spent time working with two of her children â Freddie James and Rosalind Hunt â and released the album Soultry, Jazzy & Sexy in 1999. Geraldine Hunt died on October 27, 2022, at the age of 77.
