Carol Douglas, born on April 7, 1948, in BedfordâStuyvesant, Brooklyn, New York City, is an American singer. At age 10, she won a game show and was featured in Ebony for three years. She attended Quintano High School alongside notable alumni such as Gregory Hines and Bernadette Peters. Douglas started her music career with a recording for RCA Victor under the name Carolyn Cooke, but it was cut short by an early pregnancy. In 1974, Midland International Records recruited Douglas to record "Doctor's Orders", a pioneering track in the disco genre that reached number 2 on the Billboard disco chart and number 11 on the Hot 100. Her debut album, The Carol Douglas Album, was released in 1975. Although she did not appear in the movie Saturday Night Fever, Douglas was featured on its marquee, showcasing her status as a disco star of that era. In the late 2000s and early 2010s, she released several compilation albums including Hits Anthology: Carol Douglas.
