George Henry Sanders was a British actor and singer who was born in 1906 in Saint Petersburg, Russian Empire. Although primarily recognized for his film career, he was a classically trained singer with a smooth bass voice and an accomplished pianist. Sanders began his professional career on stage in the revue Ballyhoo and made his Broadway debut in Noël Coward's Conversation Piece (1934). His musical talents were utilized throughout his Hollywood career, most notably in his vocal performance as the character Shere Khan in the Disney film The Jungle Book (1967).
