Biography
Gene Ludwig, born on September 4, 1937, in Twin Rocks, Cambria County, Pennsylvania, was an American jazz and R&B organist. He began studying the piano at age six and later took up the Hammond organ after being inspired by Jimmy Smith's performance. Ludwig released his first single "Sticks & Stones" in 1963 and went on to release several albums, including This Is Gene Ludwig (1965) and The Hot Organ (1966). He collaborated with notable artists such as Sonny Stitt and Arthur Prysock. In 1997, he signed with Loose Leaf/Blues Leaf Records, releasing albums such as Back on the Track (1998) and Soul Serenade (2000). Ludwig died in Monroeville, Pennsylvania, on July 14, 2010. A posthumous album, Love Notes of Cole Porter, was released in 2011 featuring standards by Cole Porter.
