Gaute Storaas, born on August 20, 1959, in Bergen, Norway, is a Norwegian jazz musician and composer. He began performing on the local rock and jazz scene before studying at the University of Bergen and later at Berklee College of Music in Boston, earning a diploma in arranging in 1986. Upon returning to Norway, he composed for commercials, films, TV idents, and concerts, gaining early recognition when his orchestral work Ouverture #2 won the Danish Radio Orchestra competition for younger composers in 1989. Storaas is known for creating the ident music for TV2's launch in 1992. He has composed scores for numerous films and TV series, including Elias and the Treasure of the Sea, awarded the Nordic Film Composers Award, and The Royal PortKids, which received the Edvard Prize. His work covers a wide range of genres and artists, from the black metal band Dimmu Borgir to classical trumpet virtuoso Tine Thing Helseth.
