Gary Crowley is an English broadcaster, TV presenter, and DJ. While at Rutherford School in Paddington, he founded The Modern World, a new wave fanzine featuring interviews with bands such as The Sex Pistols and The Clash. After leaving school in 1978, Crowley worked at Decca Records before joining the NME. His broadcasting career began in 1980 when he joined Capital Radio, becoming the UKâs youngest radio DJ at age 19. Throughout the 1980s and 1990s, he hosted various club nights, radio shows, and television programs, including The Beat on Carlton Television from 1991, where he helped introduce the emerging Britpop movement to UK audiences. He conducted an early television interview with Liam and Noel Gallagher of Oasis prior to the release of Definitely Maybe and championed new acts such as Suede and Bush on his BBC radio show. In 1997, he joined XFM at its launch before returning to BBC London 94.9.
