Gabriella Ferri, born Maria Gabriella Ferri on September 18, 1942, in Rome, Italy, was a renowned singer, cabaret performer, and actress known for her interpretations of traditional Roman folk songs and, to a lesser extent, those of other Italian regions. Raised in a vibrant Roman neighborhood, her passion for music was influenced by her fatherâs love for dialect songs. She first gained attention in the 1960s as part of the duo Luisa e Gabriella, performing folk classics like "La società dei magnaccioni." After the duo disbanded, she embarked on a solo career, releasing her self-titled debut album in 1966. Her unique style, blending traditional melodies with modern interpretations, earned her a spot at the prestigious Bagaglino theater and led to a record deal with RCA Italiana. In 1969, she made a splash at the Sanremo Music Festival, performing "Se tu ragazzo mio" with Stevie Wonder. The 1970s solidified Gabriella Ferri's status as a television star with appearances in popular shows like Dove sta Zazà and Mazzabubù. Known for her emotive performances, she became a beloved figure both in Italy and Latin America, thanks to hits like "Te regalo mis ojos." Gabriella Ferri passed away on April 3, 2004, leaving behind a rich legacy in Italian music and culture.
