Biography
Nicola Di Bari is an Italian singer-songwriter and actor born Michele Scommegna on September 29, 1940, in Zapponeta. He moved to Milan to pursue a music career and adopted his stage name in honor of Saint Nicholas, winning a 1961 song contest with his composition âPiano pianinoâ. He achieved commercial success in 1964 with âAmore ritorna a casaâ before participating in the Sanremo Music Festival between 1965 and 1967 alongside Gene Pitney. Di Bari earned a major breakthrough in 1970 with âLa Prima cosa bellaâ, which reached number 2 at Sanremo and topped the Italian charts. That year, he also released the successful hits âVagabundoâ and âUna ragazzina come teâ. He won the Sanremo Music Festival in 1971 with âIl cuore è uno zingaroâ and again in 1972 with âI giorni dell'arcobalenoâ. The latter song represented Italy at the 1972 Eurovision Song Contest, where he finished in sixth place. Throughout the 1970s, he focused on an international career in Latin America, recording several albums in Spanish. His discography includes La mia verità in 2014, and as an actor, he appeared in the 2020 film Tolo tolo.
