Biography

Fuel, an American rock band from Harrisburg, Pennsylvania, were originally formed in 1989 when childhood friends Carl Bell and Jeff Abercrombie began playing music together. The band's initial lineup included guitarist-songwriter Carl Bell, vocalist Brett Scallions, drummer Jody Abbott, keyboardist Erik Avakian, and bassist Jeff Abercrombie. After several independent releases under different names, Fuel emerged in 1993, signing with 550 Music and Epic Records in 1998 to release their debut studio album Sunburn. The album featured the hit single "Shimmer", which peaked at number 42 on the Billboard Hot 100. Their second album, Something Like Human (2000), included the successful single "Hemorrhage (In My Hands)", which topped the US Modern Rock Tracks chart for 12 weeks. The band's third album, Natural Selection (2003), marked the last collaboration between Carl Bell and Brett Scallions before several line-up changes. In 2014, Brett Scallions reformed Fuel with a new lineup and released Puppet Strings. Fuel achieved notable commercial success in the late 1990s and early 2000s, with Sunburn certified platinum and Something Like Human certified double-platinum by the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA). They made their return in 2020 and released the album Anomaly.
