Biography
Acclaimed accordion player Frode Haltli was born in Levanger, Norway on May 15, 1975. He began playing accordion at the age of 7, winning several national competitions and scholarships over the next few years. In 1991, he won first prize on Norwegian televisionâs talent competition show Talentiaden. He continued to study the accordion at the Norwegian Academy of Music (Oslo), and the Royal Danish Conservatory of Music (Copenhagen). After receiving several more awards, he released Looking for Darkness, his debut album, in 2002. The album won a Spellemannprisen (the Norwegian equivalent of a Grammy Award) for Best Contemporary Music Album. His second album, the Norwegian folk-inspired Passing Images, was issued in 2007. Further album in his catalog include Arne Nordheim Complete Accordion Works (2012), Air (2016), Avant Folk (2018), and the compilation Selected Solo Works, Vol. 1-3 (2020). Outside of his solo work, Frode Haltli also collaborates with other musicians including Trygve Seim, Gjermund Larsen, Norwegian folk group Rusk, and others.
