Biography

Freddie Bell & The Bellboys were an American rock and roll group formed in 1952 by Freddie Bell. They honed their act in the Midwest before landing a booking at the Sands Hotel in Las Vegas. In 1955, they made their first recordings for Teen Records, including "Hound Dog" which caught Elvis Presley's attention. The group signed to Mercury in 1956 and appeared in Rock Around the Clock. Their single "Giddy Up a Ding Dong" was popular overseas. They toured extensively, supporting Tommy Steele in the UK in 1956 and appearing in films like Rumble on the Docks and Get Yourself a College Girl. Freddie Bell died in 2008 at age 76, followed by Jerry Mayo in 2011.
