Eskew Reeder, Jr., born on November 20, 1935/1938 in Greenville, South Carolina and known by his stage name Esquerita, was an American R&B singer, songwriter, and pianist. He started his music career as a teenager with the gospel group Heavenly Echoes in New York City. His first solo recordings, made around 1958, led to a contract with Capitol Records. Notable songs include "Hey Miss Lucy" (1958) and "Rockinâ the Joint" (1958). Esquerita released his debut album Esquerita! in 1959. He collaborated with musicians like Jimi Hendrix and Dr. John. In 1970, he contributed to Little Richard's comeback album The Rill Thing. Esquerita's career declined in the mid-1970s, but he continued performing at clubs. He died on October 23, 1986, from complications related to AIDS.
