The band's breakthrough came with the single "Hip Teens Don’t Wear Blue Jeans", which gained radio play and chart success in Italy. The song later became widely known in Germany after being featured in a Coca-Cola advertisement. In 2001, Frank Popp Ensemble released their debut album Ride On! Subsequent albums included Touch and Go (2005). The band performed at the Lake Side Festival in Hergiswil am Vierwaldstättersee in 2008. After disbanding, Frank Popp released the album Receiver under his own name in 2009, which was reissued under the band's name in 2020. In 2021, Frank Popp Ensemble produced Under Covers, featuring cover versions of Frank Popp's songs by various artists. The album Shifting followed in 2023, including new titles released in 2022 after a 17-year hiatus. It was followed in 2025 by the album Waves and the single "Right Before My Eyes", featuring Paul Weller, which reached number 20 on UK's Physical Singles Sales chart.
