Biography

Smoove & Turrell, a British group from Gateshead in North East England, was formed in 2009 by Jonathan Scott Watson and John Turrell. They play a style of music they describe as "Northern Funk," a contemporary fusion of funk, soul, northern soul, hip-hop, and electronica. Their first release was a limited edition 7" single, "I Can't Give You Up" (2009), which gained underground popularity. In 2009, they released their debut album Antique Soul under Jalapeno Records, featuring the singles "You Don't Know" and "Beggarman", and earned two 'Record Of The Week' accolades on BBC Radio 2 and playlisting on BBC Radio 6 Music. Their second album, Eccentric Audio, was released in 2011 and featured the single "Slow Down", which reached Number 1 in the iTunes Soul chart. In 2014, they released their third album, Broken Toys. The band's extensive touring and international appeal were recognized by the BPI with Music for Export Growth Scheme funding in 2016.
