Francis Luther Crow, known professionally as Frank Luther, was born on August 4, 1899, in Lakin, Kansas, US. He began studying piano at age six and started vocal training at thirteen. By sixteen, he toured the Midwest with a quartet called The Meistersingers. In 1920, Luther married vocalist Zora Layman. From 1928 to 1932, Luther recorded country music with Carson Robison, achieving significant popularity with songs like "Barnacle Bill the Sailor" and "When It's Springtime in the Rockies". In the early 1930s, he formed a trio with his wife and baritone Leonard Stokes. The Frank Luther Trio debuted on NBCâs Hillbilly Heart-throbs radio series, where Zora Layman became the first country female singer to have a major hit record with "Seven Years With the Wrong Man". Luther passed away on November 16, 1980. His contributions to children's music were recognized with a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.
