François Ripoche, born in 1968 in Cholet, France, was a saxophonist and composer known for his contributions to jazz. He began playing saxophone at age eight and discovered jazz through a big-band experience at thirteen. François Ripoche co-founded the festival Jazz sur Lie in 1996 and initiated various jazz projects with artists like Steve Potts and Louis Sclavis. In the mid-2000s, he formed the group Francis et ses Peintres, collaborating notably with Philippe Katerine on arrangements for Créatures (2009) and subsequent live performances. The group released albums including La Paloma (2008), 52 Reprises Dans l'Espace (2011), and their self-titled album Francis et ses Peintres (2012). François Ripoche also engaged in diverse artistic collaborations, including theater musicals, ciné-concerts, and dance projects. He taught saxophone at the Ãcole de Musique de Rezé and participated in various music education initiatives.
