Biography

François Bourassa was born on September 26, 1959 in Montreal, Canada. He is a jazz musician known for his work as a pianist and composer. After early piano training, he explored electric guitar and blues-rock before transitioning to keyboard and then piano. Bourassa graduated with a degree in composition from McGill University and earned a master's degree at the New England Conservatory under George Russell and Fred Hersch. In 1983, he formed his trio with bassist Guy Boisvert and drummer Yves Boisvert, which expanded into a quartet with André Leroux in 1996. Notable albums include François Bourassa + André Leroux Live (2001) and Indefinite Time (2003). He won the Festival International de Jazz de Montréal competition in 1985, received a Juno Award for François Bourassa + André Leroux Live in 2002.
