Biography

Fernanda Barbosa Takai (born on August 25, 1971) is Brazilian singer-songwriter, multi-instrumentalist, and writer, mostly known for being the lead vocalist of pop rock band Pato Fu. Takai joined Pato Fu during the early 90s, releasing seven highly-acclaimed albums before embarking on a fruitful solo career. Onde Brilhem os Olhos Seus (2007), a collection of Nara Leão covers, received positive reviews and was named Best MPB Album by the São Paulo Association of Art Critics. Five years later, she collaborated with The Police guitarist Andy Summers on Fundamental (2012), an album featuring songs by the English musician sung by Takai’s delicate voice. She spent the following year working on her next release, Na Medida do Impossível (2014), which was the first album to largely feature her own material. The LP featured guest appearances by Pitty, Zélia Duncan, and Samuel Rosa (of Skank fame). It also won the Best Popular Song Album at the Brazilian Music Awards. Released to commemorate 60 years of bossa nova, O Tom da Takai (2018) featured cover versions of Tom Jobim B-sides with production by guitarist Roberto Menescal and pianist Marcos Valle.
