Biography

Isabella Maria Lopes Leite (born on October 8, 1968), also known as Isabella Taviani, is a Brazilian singer-songwriter and one of the most celebrated figures of Brazilian Popular Music (MPB). Inspired by Brazilian divas such as Elis Regina and Maria Bethânia, Taviani studied to become a soprano during her teenage years, following her grandfather’s footsteps. In 2003, she released her eponymous debut, which sold more than 10,000 copies and spawned the hit “Foto Polaroid.” She followed the success with Isabella Taviani: Ao Vivo (2005), a live CD/DVD recorded in her native Rio de Janeiro that sold more than 100,000 copies. Following a string of sold-out shows throughout Brazil, Taviani released Diga Sim (2007), whose main hits, “Luxúria” and “Ternura,” were featured on the soap operas Sete Pecados and Duas Caras, respectively. Two years later, Meu Coração Não Quer Viver Batendo Devagar (2009) found the singer shedding her skin, incorporating electric guitars and elements of electronica into her songs. After the tepid success of Eu Raio X (2012), Taviani came back with Carpenters Avenue (2016), a tribute to the Californian duo, and A Máquina do Tempo (2020), her first collection of original songs in seven years.
