Fembots, a Canadian indie rock band from Toronto, was formed in 1998 by core members Dave MacKinnon and Brian Poirier. The duo had previously been part of the alternative rock band Dig Circus in the early 1990s. Fembots began performing live shows in Toronto in 1998, incorporating analogue tape loops and prerecorded sound clips into their performances. Their debut album Mucho Cuidado introduced their unique style of using toys and power tools as instruments. The band's subsequent albums included Small Town Murder Scene (2003), which featured a more commercial sound and was praised by critics, and The City (2005). Fembots toured with notable acts like The Weakerthans and Arcade Fire, and their music was featured in various films and documentaries. Their album, Calling Out, released on September 16, 2008, saw a significant change as they moved to Weewerk Records. Following the release of this album, Fembots became inactive in 2010.
