Biography

Indie rock band Swell was formed in San Francisco in 1989 by David Freel and Sean Kirkpatrick. They released their debut album in April 1990, influenced by post-punk, Pink Floyd, folk, noise pop, and Ennio Morricone. The trio busked in Europe in the summer of 1990, returning to the US for a California tour. In early 1991, they recorded "...Well?" and toured Europe again. Their third album, "41", was released in November 1993, followed by several more albums until their disbandment in 2003. Swell members included Niko Wenner, Tom Hays, Rob Ellis, and Monte Vallier, among others.
