Biography

Eyeless in Gaza, an English post-punk band formed in 1980, comprised Martyn Bates and Peter Becker. Based in Nuneaton, Warwickshire, they began their musical journey after meeting while working as a hospital porter and laboratory technician respectively. Their first release was the EP Kodak Ghosts Run Amok, which they self-pressed and marketed. In 1981, they signed to Cherry Red Records and released their debut album Photographs As Memories. The duo became known for their unconventional arrangements and Bates' distinctive vocals. Notable albums include Caught in Flux (1981), Drumming the Beating Heart (1982). By 1986, they had shifted towards a more pop-oriented sound with the album Back From The Rains. Eyeless in Gaza went into hiatus in 1987 but re-emerged in 1993. Their later albums include Plague Of Years (2010).
