Ephel Duath, a progressive metal band from Padua, Italy, was formed in February 1998 by Giuliano Mogicato and Davide Tiso. The group initially experimented with extreme music and released their debut demo, Opera, in October of the same year. In May 2000, they released their first album, Phormula, under Code666 Records. Following internal changes, Ephel Duath signed with Elitist Records and re-released Phormula as Rephormula in 2002. The band's lineup evolved to include members from diverse musical backgrounds, leading to the release of The Painter's Palette in 2003, which blended punk hardcore with jazz fusion. This album received critical acclaim, including a notable review from Kerrang! magazine. Ephel Duath toured extensively, performing at festivals such as Brutal Assault and Headway. Their subsequent albums included Pain Necessary to Know, Pain Remixes the Known, and Through My Dog's Eyes. In December 2014, the band announced its separation.
