While Heaven Wept, a progressive and epic doom band from Dale City, Virginia, was founded in November 1989 by guitarist Chris Galvan and guitarist, keyboardist, and singer Tom Phillips. Initially named Dream Wytch, the band underwent several lineup changes and name alterations before settling on While Heaven Wept. The band's early years were marked by numerous demo recordings and internal struggles, including the departure of key members such as Chris Galvan and Brendan Galvan. In 1998, they released their debut album, Sorrow of the Angels, which included notable tracks like "The Death of Love" and "Into the Wells of Sorrow". The band continued to evolve with various lineup changes and releases, including the albums Triumph: Tragedy: Transcendence (2010) and Suspended at Aphelion (2014).
