Biography
Villa Musica is a German foundation of the state Rhineland-Palatinate and the broadcaster Südwestrundfunk formed in 1986. Based in Mainz, its primary mission is to support young performers of classical music and organize concerts. Since its inception, the foundation has organized more than 1,000 concerts, primarily focused on chamber music. Highly gifted young musicians are selected through a process called Vorspiel (recital), after which they perform with their teachers in rehearsals and concerts. The foundation organizes approximately 150 concerts annually, many of which are dedicated to young performers or featured in the Kultursommer Rheinland-Pfalz summer festival. In 2014, Villa Musica was awarded the Kunstpreis (Art prize) by the Ike und Berthold Roland-Stiftung.
