Saulius Sondeckis, born on October 11, 1928, in Å iauliai, Lithuania, was a conductor, violinist, orchestra leader, and professor. He began his education at the Å iauliai Julius Janonis Gymnasium from 1935 to 1944, followed by studies at the Lithuanian Academy of Music and Theatre under Aleksandras Livontas from 1947 to 1952. Sondeckis' career took a significant turn in 1960 when he founded and led the Lithuanian Chamber Orchestra in Vilnius until 2004. Throughout his tenure, he released numerous albums including Koncertas ViolonÄelei Ir Orkestrui (1965) and Old Music Of Vilnius (1972). Sondeckis also taught at various institutions, notably the Lithuanian Academy of Music and Theatre from 1957 to 1987. He led other orchestras such as Camerata Sankt Petersburg starting in 1989 and Lithuanian Baltic Chamber Orchestra from 2005. His contributions were recognized with multiple awards including the LSSR State Prize (1971) and the Lithuanian National Prize for Culture and Arts (1999). Sondeckis passed away on February 3, 2016.
