Biography
Jean-Pierre Armengaud, born on June 17, 1943, in Clermont-Ferrand, France, is a noted pianist and musicologist. He began playing piano at four and a half and won the Grand Prize at the "Au royaume de la musique" national competition at ten with a piece by Claude Debussy. Armengaud studied under Marcel Jacquinot and Pierre Sancan, earning his Concert License from the Ãcole Normale de Musique in 1965. He won a prize at the Vercelli International Competition in Italy in 1966 and became a solist-concertist for ORTF. Armengaud has performed in over 50 countries and recorded extensively. Notable albums include Satie Insolite (1985) and Complete Piano Works (1996). Armengaud has also contributed to the discovery of Russian avant-garde music and founded the Sainte Baume Music Festival.
