Biography

Engenheiros do Hawaii was a Brazilian alternative rock group from Porto Alegre that emerged from a group of UFRGS architecture students. The band was formed in 1984. Their debut album Longe Demais das Capitais (1986) established a new wave sound and featured the track "Toda Forma de Poder". The 1987 release A Revolta dos Dândis shifted toward a folk mood, producing hits like "Infinita Highway" and "Terra de Gigantes". Subsequent albums like O Papa É Pop (1990) expanded the band’s sonic palette with progressive and electronic elements, while Várias Variáveis (1991) and Gessinger, Licks & Maltz (1992) continued to explore MPB and progressive rock textures. After a legal dispute over the group’s name, Humberto Gessinger rebuilt the lineup and released Simples de Coração in 1995. They released the album Dançando no Campo Minado in 2003. The band commemorated its twentieth anniversary with Acústico MTV (2004). The band remained active until the group’s eventual dissolution in 2008.
