Biography

Elvis Depressedly is an experimental pop project formed in 2011 by Mat Cothran in Columbia, South Carolina. The project debuted with the self released EP Save the Planet Kill Yourself, followed by Goner and the single “Disgraceland” in the same year. In 2012, Cothran released the first full length album under the name, Mickey’s Dead, along with the compilation Hotter Sadness, which also came out in 2012. In 2013, the EP Holo Pleasures was released and gave the project more exposure than any previous work despite receiving no press coverage. In November 2014, Elvis Depressedly signed with Run for Cover Records. The 2015 album New Alhambra charted on several Billboard charts, including peaking at number 6 on the Heatseeker Albums chart. The track “N.M.S.S.” was ranked number 23 on Rolling Stone’s list of the best songs of 2015. Elvis Depressedly later released Depressedelica in 2020 and Who Owns the Graveyard? in 2023.
