Biography

Eldar Djangirov is an American jazz pianist of Tatar origin born on January 28, 1987, in Tokmok. He began playing the piano at age three and received instruction from his father and his mother, a music teacher. After appearing at a jazz festival in Novosibirsk in 1996, he was discovered by Charles McWhorter, who facilitated his studies at the Interlochen Center for the Arts in Michigan. Djangirov moved to Kansas City with his family in 1998. At age 15, he performed the piece “Rhapsody in Blue” with the Independence Symphony Orchestra and appeared with the Nebraska Jazz Orchestra. In 2000, he won two jazz piano competitions and performed during the Grammy Awards telecast. His solo discography included the studio recordings Eldar (2005), Three Stories (2011), and Breakthrough (2013). He also released the album Live at the Blue Note in 2006.
