Biography

Born Gerardo Rivera Rodríguez on July 31, 1973, in Santurce, Puerto Rico, Jerry Rivera grew up in a musical family and cut his first demo as a teenager, leading to his debut album Empezando a Vivir in 1989 and follow-up Abriendo Puertas in 1990, which yielded early radio singles like “Dime” and “Más Que Tú.” He vaulted to stardom with Cuenta Conmigo in 1992—home to “Amores Como el Nuestro,” “Casi un Hechizo,” and the title track—which topped the tropical market and became one of salsa’s benchmark best-sellers. Jerry Rivera cemented his teen-idol era with Cara de Niño in 1993, spinning off staples including “Que Hay de Malo,” before expanding his catalogue through the mid-1990s with Magia (1995) and the Grammy- and Lo Nuestro-nominated Fresco (1996), highlighted by “Loco de Amor.” By the turn of the millennium he ventured into pop balladry with Rivera (2001), produced by Bebu Silvetti and led by the hit “Quiero,” while continuing to place albums on the Latin and Tropical charts. Following a run of standalone singles through 2024—including “Así Como Así,” “En Otra Cama,” and “Te Buscaré”—Jerry Rivera opened 2025 with “Volver a Enamorarnos” in January and “Pa’ Eso Es La Vida” in May, and also appeared on “Coqueta” with Moa Rivera and Elvis Crespo. The momentum culminated with Llegué Yo, his first studio album since 2012's Jerry Christmas, on September 26, 2025, a 12-track set anchored by the title cut featuring Wiso G.
